Normally, Drex is not one of my favourite talk show hosts on AM640, and he's been filling in since the mysterious and never explained disappearance of Alex Pierson. But on Friday around 1:16 PM, he and his producer did a hilarious 15 minutes about the "station voice" who intros all the shows, and what Artificial Intelligence could do with it.
They then set about using elevenlabs, a partially free online A.I. service that specializes in generating audio. The host asked his behind-the-glass counterpart to make an I.D. saying something like "Drex and the crew at AM640 wish you a Happy Thanksgiving."
They then proceeded to play the results back on air, using different genders and accents for the message, with Drex complaining none of those supposed to be from England even sounded remotely British.
It was a great few minutes and I laughed out loud through much of it. It was a kind of inside radio moment and it was terrific.
