Would Showing The Broadcast Booth During A Game Be A Worthwhile Show?

There are cameras in the broadcast booths of major league sports these days. Usually, they're used for a quick shot between plays, getting reactions from the announcers calling the game.

But what if you could watch them all the time? The suggestion comes from a Barrett Media author, who wonders why, if they're going to bother putting cameras into the booths, they don't just make that into a mini-program and use it like a live podcast during a sporting event?

It would be interesting to see what goes on between commercials, the banter between the play-by-play and colour guys when they're not on the air and just a look at what goes on during a long broadcast.

"Imagine if ESPN or ESPN Radio also offered a live video stream of the broadcast booth through YouTube, X, Facebook, Instagram or TikTok. Tim Kurkjian live and in living color throwing his glasses after a bonehead base running mistake in real time.

Imagine the local call of a Monday Night Football game. I can listen to the game through the Westwood One app or find it on a local affiliate. But why not give fans the opportunity to watch Kevin Harlan and Kurt Warner in the broadcast booth while they call the game?

The technology, audience, and cameras are already there."

I like the idea, but would it catch on? If the game was a blow-out, it might. But either way, as a guy in love with broadcasting, it would certainly get my attention.
