Back in the 1980s, CFTR did something called "Monitor 680," a little feature that ran just before their major newscasts.
In this vintage three minute story narrated by the great John Wilson and unheard for decades, the station looked into an odd but true incident in which a Scottish guy deliberately recorded two superstar artists on lo-fi cassettes, changed their names and then sent them into the A&R folks at the records labels they were already on.
What happened next speaks volumes about how artists are chosen and the people who make those decisions.
