The Leafs are back but the show that talks about the games they just played isn't. Leafs Talk host JD Bunkis has shared the news that his regular post game show has been dumped by Rogers this season. The initial installment should have come Tuesday night after the first game of the season.
Bunkis posted a statement on X thanking fans for their support. He continues on the station, but has lost the post-game timeslot.
"Leafs Talk won’t be returning this year, but want to thank you and everyone for all the love and support. Was at the core of what made the show so fun. Sammy and I will still be together on my show (including tomorrow) so hope folks will follow us there."
For Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun, Rogers pulling the plug - even as they continued to have Jays Talk during the baseball season that just finished - is both baffling and a bad sign.
"For a season in which Rogers and Sportsnet begin its $11-billion, 12-year rights deal with the NHL, cutting something that would have cost next to no money made even less sense...
On the surface, anyway, it seems nonsensical, since post-game talk shows are about as cost-efficient as they come. But given the indifference towards sports radio — and radio in general — by Rogers, the move is being viewed by some as a troubling sign."

This not great news.
The post game shows over the years have been great to listen to.
I liked Bill Watters back in the day. Andy Frost was great and quite an honest broadcaster, considering that he was for a long time the PA annnouncer for the Leafs. As someone has mentioned, maybe they (Rogers) don't want negative comments after a bad game.
By the way, I wonder if the negative comments on talk shows was a factor in WGR losing on the Bills play by play. I am glad they are still keeping the Sabres.

A Change.org petition has now been started to bring the show back. It's not likely to convince Rogers to return "Leafs Talk" to the airwaves, but it already has over 1,500 signatures.
"Statistics show that Toronto boasts one of the most engaged hockey fan bases in the world, with millions tuning in to watch each game and follow every narrative religiously. Cutting Leafs Talk not only deprives us of entertainment but diminishes a platform that educated and engaged fans across various demographics. For many, post-game discussions are not just pastime but a way of life—fostering camaraderie and bolstering our intimate connection to the sport and city."
A bit extreme, I think, but if you're interested, you can add your name here.
