Would You Still Be A Buffalo Bills Fan If This Had Happened?

It sounds odd to say, but the Buffalo Bills are Canada's team. Or at least Southern Ontario's. The Bills game on Thursday attracted a lot of Canadian fans to the Queen City for the tailgate parties and the game.

But would you still be a big fan of this team if it had been owned by Donald Trump? Al Michaels told the story of how Buffalo's NFL team almost became another bauble in Trump's collection of possessions, as he tried to buy the team, offering a billion dollars for it in 2014.

The nightmare scenario came up again when Michaels made fun of it on Thursday's game broadcast.

"The team was put up for sale,” said Michaels. “There were basically three bidders: (current owner Terry) Pegula, who won in a billion four, a Toronto group; Jon Bon Jovi was in it; Bon Jovi said, ‘We’d keep the team in Buffalo,’ and the other bidder, Donald J. Trump, who said publicly, ‘I’m going to write a cashier’s check for a billion dollars.’ Team said, ‘Stop, we’re good. We’ll take Pegula.’”...

Al Michaels found it hilarious how quickly the team shut down Trump’s offer, choosing to go with Terry and Kim Pegula, who had already bought the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres in 2011, and were probably the safest bet to take."

The Bon Jovi bid apparently involved bringing the Bills to Toronto, a scenario that would have made fans here happy, but would have devastated the city of Buffalo. But not having Trump, who has a history of making huge profits while running his businesses into bankruptcy, as an owner is probably the best victory the Bills have ever had.

Old allegiances die hard, but would you still support the team if he owned it?

I think that if Trump had bought the Bills back in 2014, he would have bankrupt them long ago and thus the team would have a new owner, so allegiances issues avoided!

On a side-note, I thought the Bon Jovi deal involved the Bills playing both in Toronto and Buffalo, could be wrong, but I do remember when this was big news, maybe not all the details though!

Well we know that Trump wouldn't have been looking to move the team to Toronto or anywhere else in Canada.  I never thought the moving the Bill's to Toronto had legs anyway.  Sure there was excitement in the news at the thought of such a thing.  But I doubt it would have ever happened.  There is a lot more to moving an NFL franchise than just "wanting" to do it.  And after the failed experiment in 2008-12 with the Bills playing some games in Toronto, not sure the NFL would have been interested.  No guarantees that Toronto or the province was on side or that interested in spending big money for another stadium.
