It's not law yet, but there are reasons to believe it could be soon. The U.S. House passed the "AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act," and if the Senate also agrees and it gets Trump's signature, it means almost every car made in the U.S. will have to keep the AM band. 

It's not known if Canada would follow suit if it becomes the law of the land down south, but it's hard to imagine we would see a lot of cars without the band built in. 

"The bill would require the Department of Transportation to issue a rule requiring AM radio capabilities to be standard in all new passenger vehicles. Vehicles would be required to “have devices that can receive signals and play content transmitted by AM stations or digital audio stations installed as standard equipment and made easily accessible to drivers.”

The law, if approved, would last 10 years, assuring drivers could access AM in their cars during emergencies.

If, that is, there are any AM stations left by then.
