Canada Gets Hugely Popular Streaming Service - But You May Not Want It
It's one of the biggest streaming services in the world, rivalling even Netflix. And chances are good you've never heard of it. It's now come to Canada and joins some major countries that have given it 300 million subscribers. (Netflix, by comparison has some 350 million worldwide.)
It's called "JioHotstar" and broadcasts mostly Bollywood and Indian programs in English, Hindi and at least 12 other Asian languages. And now it's been launched in Canada. It has 160,000 hours of programming available, with some 30,000 new hours added every year. It retails for $19.99 a month or $49.99 for a year.
Most of us won't be interested, but given the number of South Asians in Canada (and the number of radio stations here that try to reach that audience) I'm guessing this could be a big hit in this country.

This should do well in Canada and at $49.99 a year, not a bad deal! I remember one of my neighbours years ago lamenting the fact that the local video rental store had closed, as that was his only source for Bollywood movies. He would have loved this!

Agreed.
I think with our large southasian population, this should do way better in canada than the u.s which has more latinos and blacks.
If it was free, I would be interested, finaley, an interesting streamer with exciting programming.
I don't speak any hindi, punjabi, or urdu except for basics, but I love the music, except for this new punjabi rap which has gunshot noises.

Does your neighbour subscribe to any of ATN's channels or watch when omny 2 used to air bollywood movies?
