Having worked in the news business for a quarter of a century, I continue to be baffled by the choices CFTO makes for the lead story on its 6 PM news.
On Tuesday, they thought the most important story of the day you needed to see was Doug Ford appearing on U.S. TV, including CNN. This on the same day that the feds imposed punishing tariffs on our American neighbours, a move that will almost certainly raise prices on a large number of products in Canada.
How is that not the lead? It's certainly one of the most important events in this country not only this day but this year. How does the Premier trying to pull back on the rhetoric possibly top that? It's a good story, but the lead?
I've said it before and I'll say it again - what is going on over there?

The lead was Doug Ford appearing on CNN, toning it down after his comments from the day before. A worthwhile story, to be sure, but on a day when the Canadian government announced tariffs that will raise the cost of living and hurt businesses in both countries that was not the top story.

Ah, sorry. I completely misread your post.
Right or wrong, they went with attention grabbing first.

CFTO missed the bus on that one, but Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on the US got plenty of coverage elsewhere, the BBC did a fairly in-depth report on it, plus CNN’s Abby Phillip covered it last night, so it’s getting a lot of attention. I bet things change soon, taco time!
