I Want Ben Mulroney's AM640 Shift
I wish I had a contract like Ben Mulroney gets on AM640. It has nothing to do with the money. It's the time. I believe he was off at least three days last week. Now he's informed the audience he won't be in Friday and likely Monday, the long weekend.
I have no problem with a guy getting time off and enjoying it. But he seems to have more days when he's away from the station than at it. Have there been 5 days in a row that he's actually been on for a full broadcast week? If so, I can't remember when it was.
I'd love a contract that pays me NOT to show up most of the time. Congrats on getting the perfect gig, Ben. Tune in this fall for the debut of his latest TV series, "The Invisible Man."
Which reminds me of that old joke done by Oogie Pringle on WNBC radio a looooong time ago.
Igor: Master! Master! The Invisible Man is here!
Master: Tell him I cannot see him.

I suppose, but you'd think one of the requirements for afternoon drive in the biggest market in the country might be showing up for the shift every day. Nepo or not.

I've never listened to him at his current job, but I'd imagine he's as vapid and lightweight as he was as an entertainment hack.

I actually like his show because he can present a perspective on the inner workings of politics from the highest levels that few others can. He's seen it and been there and that's something you can't get from a Jim Richards over on CFRB.

Absolutely, I doubt he actually makes that much from his show. Mulroney has a law degree from Duke University and a BA major in history. We don't really know what else he is involved with but whatever it is no doubt will pay much better than what he has going on with Corus.

Absolutely, I doubt he actually makes that much from his show. Mulroney has a law degree from Duke University and a BA major in history. We don't really know what else he is involved with but whatever it is no doubt will pay
much better than what he has going on with Corus.
According to the bio page on his website, he has a lot of other interests than just the radio show.
"Beyond broadcasting, Mulroney works with Aurora Strategy Global, advises Canadian startups such as Trexity, HOVR, Midori-Bio, and TutorOcean, and supports charitable organizations including Cystic Fibrosis Canada and SickKids."
No wonder he's gone so often.

I think his show is great and his perspective, as already noted, is not shared by anybody else on Toronto radio. Jim Richards is doing the same old, tired act he has done since he left the FAN 1430. Ben's show is different, his guests are great, he has a sense of humour, and is not afraid to poke fun at himself (if anybody heard him on with Eric Kam yesterday, you know what I mean). He takes time off - big deal. It's summer.

And he even goes on tour! Yes the radio show is not his big source of income.
