New App Lets You Watch TV Over The Web Even If The Web Is Down
It's called the HDHomeRun and it's designed to let you continue to watch terrestrial TV and receive emergency alerts over your devices, even if the Internet goes down.
"The HDHomeRun device works by taking live broadcasts and streaming them through your home internet to your streaming devices, phone, and computer. This update will allow broadcast channels to come through even without that internet connection. This includes both ATSC 1.0 and ATSC 3.0 channels."
It also presumably means you won't lose access to streaming channels if there's a web or modem issue.

I have used the Hotspot on my cell many times when my lineline internet ( Data ) was down. It worked almost as well.

Interesting.. I really do like the HD Home Run tuner and how versatile it is. One caveat though is with ATSC 3.0 and the use of AC4 audio that is part of the standard. It is difficult to find software that supports the decode of this format. The player app that comes with the HR actually sends the received AC4 audio stream over the Internet to their server for decoding, then back to the app. If you disconnect your Internet service, there goes your audio. So, maybe they have since added AC4 decoding to the new SW release, since they are now claiming now that you can still watch ATSC 3 when your Internet is down.
