This Claim By A "Simpsons" Star Is Hard To Believe

If you were on a TV show that ran for over 30 years, is it possible you may never have seen a single episode? That's the claim being made by the great Harry Shearer, who plays dozens of characters on the comedy, the longest running entertainment program in TV history.

"Shearer, who voices characters including Mr Burns, Ned Flanders and Principal Skinner, made the claim in a new interview, in which he said he “doesn’t know” if the show has aged well as he “hasn’t seen it”.

I find that claim almost impossible to believe, but he insists it's true.

There’s lots of people in the media and showbiz who don’t eat their own products.

Shearer is a uniquely crotchety old coot who has been vocal he's only in the Simpsons gig for the money. I wouldn't put it past him.

He also hosts a weekly current affairs show that's not too bad.

It's entirely possible because the standard technique with animation is to record the sound track first, and then formulate the animation to match the timing. This is the opposite of ADR where actors re-record their lines to match the visuals, for example if there was background noise that marred the sound track. And then there was the extreme case where Rich Little did the voicing for Richard Niven in The Trail of the Pink Panther and The Curse of the Pink Panther. Niven was suffering from ALS and couldn't speak clearly.

That would have been Sir David Niven.

Known as "Richard" to his closest friends and random message board posters.

Taylor Sheridan was on The Howard Stern Show yesterday and mentioned during the interview he has never watched the broadcast versions of the many shows he has been involved in. After editing them , he said he has better things to do than sit and see it again.
