Possible FM rebroadcaster for 530 CHLO Brampton
Just noticed on the CRTC website that Dufferin/Evanov is applying to the CRTC to add an FM rebroadcaster for their AM station 530 CHLO. They are proposing use the frequency of their former station CIRR-FM Toronto (103.9), with the transmitter located at their present site near Ashgrove, ON.
The coverage area of the new FM would be very small, however. Apparently they will use a highly directional antenna aimed generally east, with a maximum ERP of only 210 watts. According to the map they provided, the 3 mV (primary) coverage would not even reach Brampton. The 0.5 mV (secondary) coverage would include Brampton and most of Mississauga, but that's about it.

Does that mean its reaching scarborough?
My guess is they want to start surving the tamil, bengali, and arabic communities in scarborough.
Why do they even nead a rebroadcaster when 103.5's in hd and they can broadcast on hd 2?
The hd signal can be heard in scarborough, I can get hd1 on my hd radio but I can't get legend's hd2 signal.

No chance of reaching Scarborough. It will barely make it as far east as the 427. Putting it on Z-103.5 HD would seem to me to be a much better idea, but who knows? Maybe they want to occupy 103.9 until they can think of something better for it.

HD sub-channels are irrelevant to the conversation. It's a done dead-end.

Someone on this very board predicted (years ago) that 103.9 would end up being a repeater of Z 103.
Close. repeater yes, Z103 no.

Don't cair I was hopeing it did more because I was hopeing they would bring back the easy listening music.
I was just predicting because the coverage map said eastword.
