One Of Canada's Best Reporters Retiring At The End Of May

Robert Fife has been with a host of Canadian news organizations over the years, but he did some of his best work with the Globe and Mail. A constant newsbreaker, Fife has announced his retirement from the media at the end of May at the age of 71.

He's been not only a constant presence in print, but he's a frequent guest on both radio and TV, especially CTV's Sunday morning staple "Question Period" (which he hosted at one time.)

He also worked for The National Post, the Canadian Press and was once the head of CTV's Ottawa Bureau.

From The Globe & Mail:

"Some of Mr. Fife’s most consequential political stories included his reporting on the SNC-Lavalin affair under the Trudeau government, which led to the resignation of cabinet minister Jody Wilson-Raybould, as well as his reporting on allegations of foreign interference, including on claims China attempted to influence the 2021 federal election."

I never met Fife personally, but I do have an odd connection to him. My very first job out of college was with a service called Newsradio, which sent audio to subscribing stations across the country. It was operated out of CKEY in Toronto. Fife was in the Ottawa Bureau, so while I never met him in person, we talked on the phone often.

It's where we both got our start in the media - only he did a lot better than I did! He's earned his retirement and I wish him well.
