I'm betting none of us have ever heard of WKWZ. And why would you? It's a pretty obscure radio station that operated in the basement of a Long Island high school.
I've always been fascinated by real radio outlets located in schools and I wish mine had had one. So what happened at the lucky ones that did? The answer is in a new documentary by a former student and jock who discovered that this place somehow wound up becoming a major influence on its students and its listeners.
Turns out some well known names went through that campus, including famed director Judd Apatow, who says he owes his career to the place.
The documentary traces the history of what happened in that basement and how it graduated to something a lot bigger. And you can watch it online for free.
