Bobby Cox Dies At 84 But No Blue Jays Mention On ABC News

I was sad to hear of the passing of former Toronto Blue Jays manager Bobby Cox, who played a huge role with the team in the 1980s. Cox was in the dugout when they won their first ever Eastern Division title in 1985, a night I remember only too well.

It was the first time in a very long while local sports fans had a major accomplishment to really celebrate and people were honking their horns like mad as I was heading home from work that night.

But you wouldn't know about his career north of the border if you were watching ABC World News Tonight on Saturday. In an admittedly very brief voice over about Cox's death, all they talked about was his time with the Atlanta Braves, as if his career north of the border never existed.

He did lead the Braves to the World Series in 1995, but that wasn't his only accomplishment.  Another example, I suppose of Americans acknowledging only what happens in the 50 states - and not anywhere else.

Cox died this weekend, but no cause was immediately announced. He was 84.
