1010 & 640's Dueling Morning Shows Mother's Day Contests
They're both holding a week-long Mother's Day contest and the approaches could not be more different.
CFRB's involves telling John Moore why your mom is the best and the difference she made in your life. The winning woman gets a Casino Rama resort package, including a one-night stay in the hotel in late June, a spa treatment worth $400 and tickets to an ABBA tribute.
Greg Brady's 640 approach is a lot less "Ahhh" and a lot more "Wha---?" They want listeners to contact them concerning the worst thing they ever did that their mother doesn't know about. The winning entrant will then have to confess this "crime" to their mother on air.
The reward for the mea culpa is $250 in Vaughan Mills gift cards.
Two stations, two very different contests about the same thing.

The 640 one isn't working. Even after decades, upon hearing these stories the moms sound very disappointed in their kids for trashing their cars (in most cases) and not coming clean about what they'd done (at the time). One mom this morning couldn't speak. You could hear her thinking, "I thought you were a good kid... you wrecked my car and didn't tell me?"
Very cringey.

The 640 one is lame as hell. One girl today stole her mother's boots. How traumatic for the mother. I guess I'm finally motived to tell my mother it was me who broke a dish in our kitchen when I was a kid. Lame. As. Hell.

The 640 contest is awful.on the other hand watching an ABBA lookalike band at Casino Rama is a modern day crime.
