You may not like its programming, but you have to admit WABC owner John Catsimatidis thinks big. He's not only syndicating shows like Cousin Bruce and Tony Orlando on the weekend, but now he has plans to fill the gap when CBS Radio disappears.
He's starting "Worldwide News Network," that will not only provide radio news to the U.S., but to the entire world, with affiliates in other countries.
According to the New York owner:
“Today’s digital technology gives us the power to deliver the truth instantly, not just across America, but across Europe and around the globe. WABC Radio is already heard in all 50 states and in 178 countries through our multi-platform distribution. The Worldwide News Network is the natural next step in building a global destination for fair, balanced, no-nonsense news people can trust.”
Given its current Fox-like format, you have to wonder how "balanced" they will be, but at a time when radio is fading, it's nice to someone trying something different to bring it back.
WABC Owner Launching "Worldwide" Radio News Service

Now we have a date for this and it's no surprise. It will debut at midnight May 23rd - just after CBS Radio News closes for good. In fact, they've already hired some former CBS news readers to start the service.
The newscasts will air at the top and bottom of the hour 24/7, with expansion plans in Europe. No word on Canada, but we already have the Canadian Press and I'm not sure an American service would be appreciated here.

I recently heard CBS News updates on some SiriusXM channels. It made me wonder if they had a post-CBS plan.

I see no downside to this announcement
John Catdimatidis is a billionaire so there should be no cutting of corners as the thing lifts off.
I often listen to the BBC news calling it up on my smart speaker & last month I heard the male news reader refer to the Balitmore Orioles baseball team as the - and I will simplify here the "Baltimore Or-e-oh-less".
And that's the BBC World Service
I think this new network will be just fine

Here's a preview of what this new post-CBS Radio News service's format will sound like, courtesy of Radio World.
"The top-of-the-hour news will include three minutes of national and international news, with an additional minute that is optional, a spokesperson said.
The bottom-of-the-hour segment is one minute in length.
The segments are suitable for both commercial and noncommercial outlets."
I wonder if there will be any Buffalo affiliates?
