I'm told by an insider that Mike Downey, who produced Oakley's show and several others after the latter left 640, was let go without so much as a "don't let the door hit you on the way out." I'm sad to hear this. He was often more entertaining than the hosts he worked with. He'd been there for over 7 years. I hope he lands a new gig soon, although admittedly, there are fewer and fewer places he could go.
The same insider claims P.D. Mike Bendixen is trying to hang on, rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, cutting costs as much as possible, no matter what it means to the on-air sound. He's trying to keep as many positions around as possible - including his own. But Corus' struggles keep getting in the way.
And down the dial, the source notes CFRB talent is now only being re-signed to just one year contracts each. That does not bode well, either.
If the source I'm quoting is correct, it could mean there may be big changes coming to at least 640, let alone 1010. And from the sound of things, they won't be good ones.

There is an ad this week I saw for a new producer for Brad Smith on 640.
