It happened in the 3rd inning of the Blue Jays game on the Fan, even as the final Leaf match of the year - and the last of Joe Bowen's career - was airing on competitor TSN 1050. Although if you really cared about it, you were more likely to be listening to the Leaf game in the first place.
Still, not something you hear every day and I thought it was a class act and a nice salute.

Some great anecdotes you probably never knew.
Including this one:
"Joe’s father, Dr. Joseph Charles Bowen, credited with coining ‘Holy Mackinaw’ in admiration of Johnny Bower’s athletic saves in his own youth, delivered half the babies in Sudbury, according to his son.“He only made two mistakes,” Joe joked, “Eddie Shack (the colourful Leafs winger) and Paul Rimstead (the Toronto Sun columnist). Eddie, with that (trademark large schnoz) used to say my dad must have pulled him out by his nose."

I don't listen to hockey broadcasts very often but the final few minutes of Joe Bowen's on air career were undeniably emotional. He thanked the fans for their support and then turned to his partner in the booth, Jim Ralph.
It's not often you hear two men openly weeping on air saying goodbye, but their final exchange was unbelievably moving. I hope someone at TSN puts it up on their website. It was an incredible moment of radio.
