New York City Radio Station Expands To Its Own TV Channel

It's one thing to have a radio station owner buy a TV station and operate it as such, like Rogers running City TV.

It's quite another to start up your own TV station and operate it as a radio outlet. But that's kind of what's happening in The Big Apple as longtime FM Hip Hop format Hot 97, aka WHQT, gets ready to show you what you can't see on air.

This sounds like a gimimck, except it will show as an over-the-air channel and be available on local cable. It's not a first though - another Hot 97 in Atlanta launched itself as a broadcast TV station last year. It's not quite strict radio being shown on TV. But it directly features much of its programming, including its concert promotons, its morning show interviews and music and even its contests.

The station debuts next Tuesday.

Re: New York City Radio Station Expands To Its Own TV Channel

The Atlanta channel is actually Hot 97 New York's; they just happened to launch there first.

Hot 97 is (was?) nationally famous within hip-hop. The radio station is available on HD sub-channels in other markets
