I'm guessing most of us don't listen to CHKT, the all Chinese formatted station at 1430 AM (home of the former CJCL and CKFH.) There is a similar AM format, also owned by Fairchild, in Vancouver and on Friday, the company announced it was shutting it down and transferring most of its programming to FM.
CJVB-AM 1470, has been on the air on the west coast since the early 80s. But next week, it signs off for good, taking its programming over to CKTG on the FM band.
"The Chinese-language radio station said its Vancouver broadcasts "incurred significant economic losses" in the past five years and they are expecting the trend to continue in the future.
Fairchild cited increased costs and "increased interference" in CJVB's signal as additional reasons for closing the channel."
I would ask if this could happen here except Fairchild does not have an FM presence in the GTA and there's no room for one (unless the new Indigenous station the CRTC insists on resurrecting doesn't happen, potentially leaving 106.5 open.) So it's unlikely its Toronto counterpart will be disappearing from the local airwaves anytime soon.
I'm sure the company would love to get off 1430, which puts out an OK signal in the city, but doesn't travel very far out of it.

Not sure about the branding, but I believe CIRV (aka Red FM) is owned by South Asian Broadcasting, not Fairchild. Is this a subcarrier?

Looks like it. Was just about to suggest they could lease out a sub-channel from 88.9 or 101.3.

I think Fairchild programs on 88.9 on satturday nights.
They could leese 88.9's HD4 subchannel 24/7 because they are still looking for people to program it.

Likely not going to happen for Toronto and GTA.
AM1430 has Chinese programs (majority in Cantonese daytime and afternoon early evening, . M-F 24hours, Saturday 11am start time and Sunday 12noon start time until tur next day 6pm.
Link for 1430AM schedule:
Their FM88.9 station is leased and has Mandarin programs M-F 7:30am-10:30am, Saturday 10-11pm in Mandarin and Sunday 11pm-12 midnight in Cantonese.
Link for 88.9FM schedule:
At Vancouver, FM96.1 primarily has programs spoken in Mandarin and AM1470 primarily has programs spoken in Cantonese.

Link for 1470AM schedule:
It is interpreted is 24/7 radio station but the scheduling overlap between the AM and FM signals.
I am not surprised they made this move, the programs at AM can be moved to the FM and cut some of the programs that are pre-recorded or rebroadcast casted. The over night broadcasts is just music and commercials.

Ironically enough, one of the strongest AM signals in the upper Ottawa Valley area [Deep RIver, Mattawa etc] is 1430.
