The Real Reason Stan Roberts Was Fired From WGR Emerges 35 Years Later

Some here will remember the name Stan Roberts, a legendary Buffalo radio/sports personality who was a fixture in that city for decades. But in 1982, he was suddenly and inexplicably fired from WGR-AM despite good ratings, without ever really knowing why.

Now the guy who wielded the ax explains what really happened, and also reveals the part that a Toronto radio announcer played in getting the whole thing started.

For Stan Roberts, an unexpected apology – 35 years later

Re: The Real Reason Stan Roberts Was Fired From WGR Emerges 35 Years Later

WGR began to go downhill when PD Larry Anderson left in 1980. Then Roberts left followed by Frank Benny (to WYRK) and John Otto (to WKBW) in 1985. Remember that light-rock format they had on the FM side as WRLT "The Switch Is On" that replaced 97 Rock? Dreadful.
