The One Thing You Never Think Of In Olympic Coverage - The Audio

Sure, you've seen the great camera work and the drones. But what about the sounds of the Winter Games? Turns out there are strategically hidden microphones everywhere along the Olympic venues.

And while everyone is concentrating on the sights of the athletes' feats, it's a testimony to a lot preparation that you're able to hear the sounds of their efforts, too.

Re: The One Thing You Never Think Of In Olympic Coverage - The Audio

One thing I noticed that NBC "slipped" up on was skating.  The audio for the figure skating music on NBC sounded like they had a microphone picking up the music beside a speaker. The music had a strange echo behind it with the announcers overpowering what the skaters were performing to.  CBC had a better mix of audio with the music loud and clear.  It sounded like they were actually patched into the arena system and the music prominent in stereo.

The sound overall has been excellent for other sports with lots of atmospheric sound of the various sports.
