CP24 Shows The Toronto We Love

Forget about the Winter Olympics and Super Bowl.  Yesterday CP24 was all over the opening of the new Eglington crosstown LRT.  The news channel had a crew out for the opening yesterday morning at Kennedy station with excited crowds chanting "Line 5."  CP24 featured live reports all day long, talking with people about their impression of the new service and facilities.

The new line took way too long to build (15 years), too much money, and because of many delays forced businesses to close especially in New Jamaica.

The happy crowd generally seemed to have positive reviews after riding the line.  Amazing were the many people from out of town and outside of Canada who made the trek to Toronto to take a free ride on day one.

Interviews with two guys from Indiana who came just for the first day, a couple from the UK who were hoping the LRT would be running while here, a young man from China who waited for hours, and was happy to be here.  Three friends sat in lawn chairs in the cold at Kennedy station from 10pm on Saturday night just to be first in line for the 7:30 official opening yesterday morning.

Sure there will be issues in the days ahead, and complaints about the service.  But yesterday and this morning CP24 showed a side of Toronto that was having fun, celebrating the long wait for an expanded LRT/subway, and having a bit of a party in cold frigid temperatures.
