First Show of Season 15 of Under the Influence Looks At Newsjacking

Last Thursday at 11:30am the popular CBC radio show and podcast Under the Influence started off their 15th season and host Terry O'Reilly's 21rst year! with the timely topic of newsjacking, when a brand piggybacks onto a hot news story to garner attention and hopefully sales.

The half-hour flew by as Terry talked about this often risky niche kind of marketing and shared stories of how brands successfully and less successfully used newsjacking in an attempt to market themselves.

There's also a new Under the Influence show intro theme with clips from classic spots including "Start the car!"

Kudos and well done to the CBC for supporting such a terrific show and warmest congratulations to Terry O'Reilly and the whole UTI team on 15 years of Under the Influence and over two decades of radio (with Age of Persuasion the first iteration.)

Thanks Terry.

p.s. 💡: a Terry O'Reilly written and voiced UTI kind of special edition radio series dedicated to sharing all the innovative ways the Beatles marketed themselves from the beginning to the end of their remarkable time together.

That intro was used last season as well. I am also a big fan of Under the Influence.

Love the show - one of my few appointment tuning programs - but I hate the new theme. They just spent six months rerunning older shows and you got to hear the original which was much, much better. In the end, it doesn't hurt the show, per se, but I wish they had picked something better.

I too enjoy Under the Influence but listen to the 11:30am Saturday broadcast, it fits in nicely with my errands run! I have also listened to another Terry O’Reilly produced show/podcast called We Regret to Inform You, which deals with, as you can guest, being rejected! Check it out as well, hosted by his daughter I believe.
