Happy New Year!

I would like to wish all the members of SOWNY a very Happy New Year and all the best in 2026. I would also like to thank RadioActive for his commitment and patience to the board and also all of you who contribute, I am continually learning from your comments about the biz even though I’ve been in broadcasting for over 40 years!

Thanks to all and again, Happy New Year, hoping 2026 is a good one for us all!

Re: Happy New Year!

Same to you SW and all the great people who post or lurk here. Even after all these years, I still learn something new almost every day. And no tuition!

I hope 2026 is a great year for all who visit these pages. (Honestly, could it be much worse?) Without you, there is no SOWNY. May your future be brighter than AM's!

Re: Happy New Year!

Gracious platitudes aside, I am thinking 2026 is going to be a very difficult year. But, enjoy the turning of the calendar everyone !

Re: Happy New Year!

The official song of NYE.

A New Year’s Eve staple: the history of Auld Lang Syne

I wonder how many remember that Auld Lang Syne was part of a Top 40 hit way back in 1961. It was a tune by The G-Clefs called "I Understand (Just How You Feel)" and used the traditional New Year's Eve tune as its background - and even includes some of the words in the song.

It reached #9 on Billboard and peaked at #14 on the Canadian charts. It's very unusual and yet quite catchy. I'm surprised with all the Christmas stuff being repeated endlessly on the radio that this never makes the playlist.

Re: Happy New Year!

Just one more. My all time favourite comedy is an oldie - The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, which airs on Antenna TV. It's brilliantly written, well performed and next to Green Acres, is probably the most surreal show that's ever been on television. (George watches the show as it's going on over the "magic" TV in his den, commenting on the writing and the acting. Find me another show that's ever done that!)

So, from George & Gracie, Happy New Year!
