Moore In the Morning Sign-off: Smart Branding or Awkward Move

Jason Agnew has a regular sign-off when doing his Sunday trivia show "Don't you dare miss it!" and the game show jauntiness suits his personality and works well.

On Moore In the Morning this morning, Jason invited listeners to tune in to the next Moore In the Morning show and then using his signature goodbye, firmly and confidently said "Don't you dare miss it!"

There's a certain etiquette when filling in for another broadcaster on their show.

Perhaps it's no big deal but it kinda felt out of place.

Smart branding on Jason's part or...

It's his catchphrase. I suppose those who listen to him regularly are expecting it.

Re: Moore In the Morning Sign-off: Smart Branding or Awkward Move

'Don't you dare miss it!' was the sign-off catchphrase of pro wrestling announcer Billy 'Red' Lyons on WWF TV broadcasts for decades.  Agnew, a wrestling fan, expropriated it for himself.  Does he expound on the life saving miracles of 'Jiffy App', in Moore's place?

Broadcasting and entertainment are famous for people copying and lifting bits and routines or refining existing ones to give their own spin on things.
That's just the world of entertainment, you take something that already exists and tweek it to make it your own.
The great Canadian one liner comendian Stuart Francis has the line "People have accused me or plagiarism... their word not mine."

Jason Agnew has filled in before on 1010 and signed off with his catch phrase mentioned here. I think that if Moore or the ND had an issue with this, Agnew would have been told to drop it by now. I actually expect to hear it when he’s hosting as its somewhat campy and makes me smile!

That phrase is a little too "WWE" for me. Eric Kam is a TMU econ. prof. who appears now and again on 640 Toronto. He ends his chats with "stay healthy, (fill in the host name here). Maybe it's just me, but as an econ. prof. shouldn't it be "stay wealthy, (fill in the host name here)"?

"I was having a heck of a time coming up with a clever valedictory catchphrase. That's why I called Jiffy..."
