The show will air 2 hours before the clock strikes midnight and will have nothing to do with Ryan Seacrest or Times Square.
Instead, it will be hosted by George Stroumboulopoulos and feature performances by Canadian bands Sloan & Big Wreck.
It will also be aired out west on CHEK in B.C., which will show it twice - once at 7 PM Pacific Time and again at 10 PM for the countdown to midnight, which will have actually passed in the east.
Rare to see two independents put on a major show like this to compete with shows on CBC, ABC and the U.S. networks, so good for them for joining forces on the special for the fourth year in a row.

They should have made special breaks for the countdown, where Hamilton can be live from Niagara falls and BC can be live from somewhere special. Outside of that, good for them to have the same content on as many stations as they can.
It will be a nice alternative to Ryan Seacrest.

I know the term "Live to Tape" is pre recorded, so is "Live to Broadcast" also pre recorded or will this be really "Live".

Talk about competing with the bigger and better funded guys. The CBC has unveiled its plans for New Year's Eve and it's a long and extended countdown to 2026. In fact, they have so much planned for Dec. 31st, it may not end until 2027!
It starts with the annual This Hour Has 22 Minutes end of year special, then segues to the Toronto's Harbourfront Centre and Edmonton's ICE District, along with celebrations from across the country's various time zones, where the clock strikes 12 several different times.
Among those hosting: Ian Hanomansing, Jann Arden, Adrienne Arsenault and Andrew Phung. It's going to be a very long night for the CBC crews - the coverage doesn't end until 3:30 AM EST (or 12:30 AM B.C. time)
All the details are spelled out here.
