I was pleased to hear nearly every station in the GTA do some kind of moment of silence or commemoration of Remembrance Day at 11 AM. I did a quick scan of both AM and FM and all the stations in this area did at least a pause. Both CHUM-FM and CFRB aired John Moore's recitation of In Flanders Field, for example, while others just did the moment of silence.
(In fairness, I did not hear Indie 88, CHIN, Joy 1250, or Kiss 92.5, but I'm pretty sure the latter took part because all the other Rogers stations did something, including 570 News and 680, along with CHFI and the Fan590.) The Corus stations and Stingray's Boom also did their part. And so did Whiteoaks' newly independent CKTB. Even CKOC was part of the observance.
It was a pretty good showing but there was one exception to this Remembrance rule - CFAJ St. Catharines, which is automated, made no allowance for the day and was playing the Alan O'Day oldie "Undercover Angel" when the clock hit 11 AM. Otherwise, a nice showing by the stations in town.

As I have said in another post. I am so glad I went to the Blth Festival to watch a play about Doc and the early days of CKNX. They very respectively wrote into program the war that happened, how Docs son made the decision to enlist, the Moment of Silence and how CKNX did its part in giving jobs to our soldiers as the returned.
It was a different time, but something worth remembering.

CFAJ should just be sold or shut down already.

I was in the car briefly and at about 11 minutes to 11 o'clock both Giant FM in Tillsonburg and Dave Rocks in Cambridge had broken format for Remembrance Day.

CFAJ is owned by Radio Dhun. Aren't they the owner of 1320? Or some station in and around the Mississauga area?
Maybe all that was available was a multicultural version of silence and respect?
(assuming the owner's other stations participated in silence @ 11AM on Rememberance day)
With 1220 operating as a digital storage station, I guess there was no available option...except maybe they could have pressed the pause button for silence @ 11AM for a minute...at least.

Did anyone else catch the 1010 CFRB 16:00 news report on today?
- The date marks the end of World War II?
- Fewer than 100 World War II vets are still alive?
I really hope I misheard these tidbits.

If automated CKOC can do it, CFAJ could have, as well.

If CKOC can do it and be owned by an owner of mostly ethnic stations, Then CFAJ could break.
Someone could easily find a recording of the last post.

I did hear that news break yesterday and don’t recall their stat on living WWII vets, but I did hear elsewhere that there was just under 8000 Canadian WWII vets still with us.
