I was going through my news feed on Thursday and noticed multiple articles about the sudden and unexpected death of a Philadelphia radio personality. His name was Pierre Robert (pronounced Ro-bear) and he worked for decades on WMMR-FM, becoming a famous Philly voice.
He died quite suddenly at age 70 this week, sending shock waves through the industry. But not just in the City of Brotherly Love. I read obits of him in Rolling Stone, NBC News, CBS News, and even in British newspapers. He even became one of the lead stories of most of the Philadelphia TV news shows. When was the last time anyone in radio was even mentioned on television?
This guy must have been something special to garner so much attention for a local broadcaster. So how is it most of us have never heard of him?
We all know Cousin Brucie, Imus in the Morning and Howard Stern, all big names in radio. So how could this guy have slipped by our notice? There were tributes to him from Jon Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Billy Idol, Graham Nash, Alice Cooper and even Rush, as well as mentions of him all over the U.S. I'm simply amazed he never appeared on my radio radar.
I'm curious - has anyone here ever heard of this obviously talented man? I'm sorry he died and I'm sorry I wasn't more aware of his legend. Apparently, I was one of the few who had never heard of him.

Pierre who? All kidding aside, never heard of him but obviously had a great reputation with those in the music biz. R.I.P. Monsieur Robert.

No, I didn't know him, but Pat St. John did a nice live tribute to Pierre immediately after reading of his death. Pat is live afternoons on Sirius/XM 60s Gold..
