Has Anyone Ever Heard Of This "Problem" On Their HDTVs?

I came across this story on something called "The Soap Opera Effect" or SOE on television sets. What is it and why is it affecting the way you're watching TV?

I have to say I've never noticed or even heard of this and it's not "a thing" for me. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Does it bug you as much as this author seems to think it should? A bit of a tempest in a teapot methinks.

What is the 'soap opera effect' on TVs? Why is it so hated? And how do you avoid it?

Re: Has Anyone Ever Heard Of This "Problem" On Their HDTVs?

I believe it's just a picture setting that can be turned on/off. It's jarring to see, like an uncanny valley effect.

I recall this being more of a problem in the early days of HDTVs and has abated somewhat since.
