Lassie & Lost In Space's June Lockhart Dies At Age 100

She's been a fixture of TV almost since the networks first signed on. Sad to hear June Lockhart has passed away after a pretty amazing career. She made appearances on countless shows, but was best known as the mother on Lassie and the mom of the Robinson family who got Lost In Space on the classic 60's sci fi dramedy.

Not as well remembered were her appearances in the final two years of Petticoat Junction, as well as Knots Landing and the soap, General Hospital.

She was certainly around a long time - Lockhart was 100 when she passed last Thursday.

June Lockhart, beloved mother figure from ‘Lassie’ and ‘Lost In Space,’ dies at 100

And father Gene, a familiar character actor, was born in London, Ontario.

Lassie, supposed to be a girl dog, was actually played by a male dog., or even multiple male dogs.
Producers believed male dogs were easier to train, and looked better on TV, so I guess Lassie, or the male who played her was the first trans TV star.

I recently listened to a Billy Mumy interview and he said that Lockhart was a huge David Bowie fan

The 1938 version of A Christmas Carol features Gene Lockhart as Bob Cratchit, real life wife Kathleen Lockhart as Mrs. Cratchit and little June as daughter Belinda Cratchit (uncredited).

I read on Facebook that Billy Mumy said she would take some of the cast to shows at the Whisky a Go Go.  According to him, her taste was well ahead of its time.

June's daughter is named Anne Lockhart and has had roles in dozens of movies and TV shows. Her most famous, to me, was as Sheba, a warrior in the original Battlestar Galactica that ran on ABC in 1978. Quite the showbiz family.
