For viewers of Channel 4 in Britain, it was a topical documentary with the provocative title everyone who is still working has wondered about – “Will A.I. Take My Job?”
 
The show examined the various ways A.I. is influencing jobs, with the on camera reporter going to various places to demonstrate how artificial intelligence is encroaching onto all kinds of employment.
 
But it wasn’t until the end of the one hour special that viewers were let in on a secret – the reporter who had been anchoring the entire show was herself an A.I. creation.
 
“It will take their jobs,” the fake reporter predicts. “Call center workers? Customer service agents? Maybe even TV presenters like me. Because I’m not real. In a British TV first, I’m an AI presenter. Some of you might have guessed: I don’t exist, I wasn’t on location reporting this story. My image and voice were generated using AI.”
 
The station says it won’t be in the habit of doing that again – but the producers wanted to make a point. And it appears they did.
