Here's a 2025 snapshot of which weekday day parts overachieve (prop up) a station's weighted rating, and which day parts are dragging a station's ratings down.
This list is not indicative of their ratings, but whether the daypart exceeds the station's weighted overall average or not. A positive or negative integer indicates their ranking in this matter. A positive number is good, a negative number is bad, and 0 is on-par with the rest of the station's rating.

That’s an interesting way to sort that info. It really highlights two current trends to me
-Radio One has completely fallen apart after the morning show. Can’t help that they’re pushing their podcasts hard, but they have the luxury of cannibalising their ratings.
-There’s a significant cohort of women who listen to Marilyn in the morning, and then CHFI the rest of the time. Makes sense; her long-time listeners likely don’t care for CHUM’s music all that much.

I agree. Meanwhile CBC Music is killed by their sudden shifts in format. Classical may be nice to have in other Canadian markets, but it doesn't work in Toronto where we have full-time classical and Jazz stations.
My other takeaways....
- CHFI's morning show seems like a huge gap
- meanwhile afternoon's are dragging CHUM down significantly
- the talk stations (640 & 1010) airing reruns/low effort simulcast shows in the evenings drag them down too
- Without their morning men, 640 and 1010 would see big losses
- Q and The Edge are stable the entire day. Pretty good place to be in if you program them.

CBC Music had a bit of a thing going when they were mostly AAA. But the shift a few years ago to more block programming has been a problem.
As for the CHFI morning show, longevity is everything in mornings, especially for older-skewing stations...and the relatively new show is up against a behemoth when it comes to that.
Edge is certainly "stable" by daypart, but sitting just under a 2 share so far this fall.

It is interesting how stable Boom is throughout the day and a few other stations like Q and The Edge. Also midday Newstalk 1010 tanks (Jerry and Vashy) and 640 ( Ben Mulroney and Alex Pierson) strong.

Agreed. It doesn't serve the public well, and I'm not sure why they continue to do it.

When they first launched Radio2 (post-CBC Stereo) internal messaging was that they expected to be the #1 music station in most markets.
Not that they should be playing the ratings game anyway, but the numbers do offer some insight as to whether what they're doing is resonating.

The oddest CBC Music moment was when they gave the Toronto station a more commercial logo, hired Raina from Indie88, and decided to compete against them. It actually worked a bit! ...but not what they should be doing.

It doesn’t surprise me that 1010 is the best over achiever in the Breakfast time slot as nearly everyone I know who listens to radio tunes into Moore in the Morning for at least a bit. I was surprised that AM740 does appear in any of the time slots as I tune in a couple of times a week for some oldies, as long as they don’t play “Seasons in the Sun”…..!

I excluded stations under the margin of error, since 740, 1050, 95.3, and so forth don't have big enough numbers 25 through 54 to do this calculation
