Was The Blue Jays Playoff Game Simsubbed?
As many here know, I don't subscribe to cable, a personal protest choice because I can't stand Bell or Rogers and don't want to give them any of my money. So I watched the Jays playoff win over-the-air off of Channel 29.
I think I know the answer but for those who have a subscription, I'm curious - did the Sportsnet feed override the Fox version in Canada?
I ask because the Fox feed was technically not the same as SN's, with different announcers, different replays and different analysts. To me, that makes it separate enough from Sportsnet that both should have been available to Canadian viewers, but my guess is that didn't matter enough to cancel the simsub.
Did you get a choice?

Not simsubbed. Watched on Bell satellite - Boston ABC Also recorded to the cloud via Bell Fibe App…same station not simsubbed. I dont believe sportsnet or tsn have simsub rights any longer. Only OTA’s have simsub. The ABC commentators were quite fair in their play by play…must have annoyed viewers in nyc. Very different coverage on ABC than Yankees YES network...where michael Kay seldom acknowledges a great play made by the jays...or for that matter any opponent of the yankees.

I think you meant Fox, not ABC, but the point is made. I'm glad to hear it. Canadian viewers should have the choice, although I'm sure most would prefer Buck and Dan to the crew from the U.S.

There was no simsub as Sportsnet and Fox had different shows. However, City did simsub the Fox telecast.

That is how simsub works. So yes RA, there was simsub.

That's not how that works... the feed has to be the same (American version) in order to be eligible for simsub. Furthermore, Simsub can only be implemented for OTA stations, not cable. It's the same reason we can see NBC's coverage of the Olympics even though CBC has the Canadian rights: since the feeds are different they cannot request simsub over NBC.
