Could This Rogers Blue Jays Ticket Giveaway Backfire?

It all depends on how they do it. Rogers has announced it will be giving away 250 pairs of tickets to each Toronto Blue Jays playoff matches on Instagram and Facebook. Every game morning at 8:30 AM, the company will announce a place where the ducats will be doled out on a first come, first served basis.

What could go wrong? Hopefully, nothing, but I'm put into mind of CHUM's infamous 1960's "Walking Man" contest, which ended in a near riot. They told listeners via clues where the "Walking Man" would be, but the contest flopped. So eventually they decided to pinpoint the exact location of where the guy was (Yonge & Queen), telling listeners what to look for to win $200. They expected a small group of people to show up. Instead, police had to be called in to handle the crowds and the massive traffic jam that paralyzed the downtown core.

Could Rogers run into the same thing? Hopefully not, but the last thing they want is for history to repeat itself.
