The morning show host took weeks off for an election campaign he didn't win. Now he'll be off again, but this time for medical reasons. Brady announced on Thursday he'll be undergoing shoulder surgery this week, and expects to be gone for at least a week or more.
There's no word yet on who's taking his place, although Brad Smith has become their de facto fill-in.
It's not the first time a Toronto radio host has gone under the knife in recent days. Both Jerry Agar of CFRB and Alex Pierson, another 640 host, took a few weeks off for knee or hip surgery in the past few months.

In a promo running on the station to explain his absence, Brady indicates there will be a "rotating" number of different hosts sitting in for him while he's gone. First up: Friday, when Alex Pierson takes on the morning run. It's not clear who will be in the air chair come Monday or who might be taking her place between noon and 3.

Shoulder surgery. Nowhere near the vocal cords. Set up a remote and have him earn his keep.
Or get someone off Jiffy app. Does he not shill for them, or is that a different Toronto talker? 🤨

And the merry-go-round of musical chairs continues. Alex Pierson sat in for Brady on Friday morning, noting it would be the only time during his absence that she would. (So who appears Monday in the AM slot? We'll find out then.)
Who took Pierson's place? David Cooper, who normally does the 7 PM show from his home in NYC. Who will be taking his place? That, too, remains to be seen.
Surgery does not get scheduled on a whim. Surely they must have had some prior notice about Brady's upcoming procedure. Wouldn't it just be easier to have one person replace him for the time he's gone and leave everybody else in their proper spots? This seems unnecessarily complicated, even if Brady is only going to be gone for a few days (they hope.)

As someone who had had shoulder surgery, I wish Mr. Brady well. Mine was 30 years ago, I still have difficulty at times in certain movements. Hopefully for him, the procedure has been improved over the decades.

There was probably concern that a host potentially on painkillers might have some embarrassing moments.

Brad Smith will be in for Brady for the next two days. Brady himself is due back on Wednesday, less than a week after going under the knife. Not bad to have surgery and return that fast.

arthroscopic surgery is a wonderful thing, if Greg's shoulder could be fixed up using the less invasive method...
why didn't Ben Mulroney take over the prime on-air position during his absence is what I'm curious about
I still remember listening to Greg on Leafs Lunch on am640 around 2004, which feels like a million years ago. I'm wishing him a speedy and complete recovery, it's not the surgery that's the painful part, it's getting your mobility back and doing the torturous rehab exercises.

Brady returned on Wednesday, only 6 days from his last time on air. Which, considering the seriousness of the operation, is pretty remarkable. He can't drive for the next few weeks, which is why he's doing the show from his home in Ajax.
He also shared the rather personal fact that he can't take a bath or a shower for the next little while, which I'm sure isn't comfortable for him - or his family members!
Gotta give him credit for coming back in less than a week. Not sure I'd be able to do that so soon after major surgery.
