Yesterday…86 years ago…

The first attempt was made to record the entire broadcast day of a single radio station in the U.S. The station chosen was WJSV in Washington, D.C. and the reason was then-President Franklin Roosevelt’s important speech to Congress later in the day. The whole 19 hours of programming was recorded on transcription disks and is part of the sound recording collection of important radio programs of the WW2 era.

For old time radio buffs like me, these recordings are a fascinating glimpse into what programming, commercials, news and music were like in that bygone era. If you interested in listening to some snippets, it’s available here:
