Since I had heard of Charlie Kirk prior to this shooting, I don't have much to say about him since none of it would be nice, but now because of the shooting of a right-wing figure (the deaths of two Democrats earlier this year garnered not even a shoulder shrug from the White House) maybe the US will FINALLY strive for stronger gun laws?  Because nothing will prompt the far-right to admit that gun violence can affect anyone, than seeing one of their own die.

As the above post points out, Charlie Kirk once said that the 2nd Amendment was worth sacrificing some lives, if he had survived it would have been fascinating if his opinion would still hold. Encouraging violence on the assumption that you will never feel its effects is naive and stupid.

Indeed, Kirk had broken with Trump a bit lately, and some of MAGA was pretty mad about it. That, and this was in Utah. Plausible. 

Newsguy, can you let people mourn before you attack them hours after they die. 

I would rather Christian values at play now, than a wild west democratic view point.  We need decency, kindness, compassion, community and all sides need to dine at the table. 

The guy was working on a tour to University students in the U.S. to talk openly about the issues young people are facing with his work at Turning Point USA... he had views, more to the right, but I never got that he was radical right or violent. 

As for this talk about his views on guns, it was a year ago, almost to the day that Kamala admitted she packed heat.

God forbid any of us and our family experienced a home invasion, you might want a little protection (in case).

I honestly find it hard to hate on someone, when his wife, kids, family, friends, colleagues are dealing with this tragic event. 

I guess when you call out someone else for being despicable, and have a finger pointing at them, you have 3 fingers pointing back at yourself.

We are facing massive issues globally, we need to ask the right questions, listen to each other and refrain from attacking, especially as it is all shock and it is so fresh.

This is really unfortunate.... he should've died a prolonged and painful death.....

Before this goes even farther off the rails, I'm going to close this off. Yes, I disagreed with Kirk. But I also disagree with political assassinations. That can never be something you approve of on either side. Murder is murder. And this one threatens to drive the U.S. even further towards a civil war. 

No one needs that.

I thought long and hard before putting it up, but I knew if I didn't someone else would. The fact he was a well known radio host down south was what made it relevant to this board.

But it has already cost me two longtime members that I know of, which is saddening. And I would remind them outside of one or two threads, SOWNY is mostly non-politicial. I hope to keep it that way. And I hope one day they'll be back.
