John Oakley is off for two weeks, but his producer, Michael Downey, remains behind, guiding guest Brad Smith through the afternoon run on AM640.
After the 5 o'clock news on Tuesday, a woman's voice came on introducing Smith in place of Oakley.
Smith, who obviously had not been briefed, went on air and complimented the Artificial Intelligence voice that just intro'd him. But both Downey and his board op insisted she was human, as a clearly skeptical Smith said he would take their word for it.
If they are human, they have the dullest reads I think I've heard on a Toronto radio station.
Do you believe Downey that they're the real thing?

Does Corus have the money to pay a proper imaging voice? I know 640 used to use the same voice that Global News uses but that seems to have gone by the wayside. Regardless, I don't believe Mr. Downey.

Agreed. Quite honestly, imaging on Toronto's biggest stations is becoming a joke. Just the fact that this is even a subject of discussion shows just how bad the situation has gotten...
