Just went to the Buffalo Radio Discussions site and it tried to lock up my computer and wanted me to phone a bogus 1-800 number to unlock. I was able to escape but be careful if you visit.

Are you referring to the Buffalo / Niagara Falls / Rochester subforum of Radio Discussions? No suspicious activity for me, but I use the Duck Duck Go browser. Keeps a lot of garbage from surfacing.

Yes Buffalo/Niagara etc. Likely it isn't widespread, just a fishing thing. But thought I would pass along anyway.

Forewarned is forearmed. I just chimed in to mention it could be a browser issue, as opposed to a website issue. 🙂

I was looking at it yesterday and did not experience this. But it's good to be careful either way. Make sure you have an anti-virus like Norton or McAfee on your machine just in case.

I have visited the site many times and no problems, last time about two days ago. Haven't had anything like this happen in years. I will make sure my anti virus is up to date.

Not sure if it can lock a browser, but accepting Notifications from ANY site can certainly threaten to and ask you to phone an 800 number to resolve. Saw something similar around this time last year on a friend's computer, caused by a Notification on a small town buffet restaurant web site (he was checking the menu).

No problems using it here. I recommend running a through antivirus scan of your system then downloading a free copy of Malwarebytes for an additional scan because it sounds to me like you might have something on you system that's causing it. Malwarebytes is safe and very effective in fixing those things. I've had my browser hijacked by malware in the past and it's always done a good job cleaning up the mess.

The problem was almost certainly not on the radiodiscussions site, but already on your computer. Those ones sit dormant and then pop up at a "random" times

If reports out of Buffalo media earlier this year are correct, Bauerlie managed to get the lion's share of his late mother's estate, over the protestations of a brother and sister. He probably isn't hurting for funds.
