This is just a personal pet peeve but it's driving me crazy. Jays radio colour man Chris Leroux has fallen in love with the word "velo," which he pronounces "vee-low." He says it at least three-four times ever single half inning about how a guy is pitching.
Only problem is the word does not exist. It's short for velocity and if you're being a stickler, it should really be pronounced as "vel-low," as in velocity, which is what it stands for.
The fact is this word does not exist. There's no such thing as "velo" and even if you accept that it's slang, my God, how many times in a game do you have to use it?
A small thing, I'll grant you, and probably only something that bothers me. But I wish they'd cut it out with all due speed. Or should I say "velo?"
