Could NYC's Only All News Radio Station Strike Over Safety Concerns?

Their slogan was always "Give us 22 minutes and we'll give you the world." But now the employees who work at WINS-AM, New York City's only all news radio station after WCBS switched to sports, are looking for more than the world - they want their safety guaranteed.

As the employees and Audacy, which owns the station, count down to a July 22nd contract expiration, the workers have added a new and unusual demand: protect our safety. According to the union, several people at the station -which operates live 24/7 - have been attacked on their way to and from work. And they want guarantees they'll be protected.

Not the kind of story we usually feature here, but it's such a well known station, has such a great heritage - the oldest continuous all news format in North America - and the request is so unusual that I thought it was pretty interesting. Demanding workers at a radio station be protected going to and from work - that's news you don't hear everyday.
