Former Teen Idol Bobby Sherman Dies At 81

This one will make many feel old.

Bobby Sherman, who achieved teen idol status in the late 60s and early 70s, has died. He was not only a music star, achieving huge hits with bubblegum tunes like "Hey Little Woman," and "Julie Do You Love Me," but a TV performer on shows like "Here Come The Brides."

His star shone brightly but faded quickly and after years out of the spotlight, it was discovered he'd become an EMT with the Los Angeles Police Dept., with some locals there stunned to find him at the scene of an accident.

The cause of death has not been confirmed, but Sherman had earlier revealed he had Stage 4 cancer.

He was 81.

Re: Former Teen Idol Bobby Sherman Dies At 81

I was not a Bobby Sherman fan, and there was a divide about him. Teenage girls mostly loved him. The majority of teenage boys couldn't stand him.

I was one of the latter back then.

But it's incredible what stays with you. When I was a kid, I remember going to the CNE with a school friend of mine. We were walking down the Midway, discussing who was playing at the Grandstand that night. I've long forgotten who that was, but I remember saying something like, "As long it's not that horrible Bobby Sherman,"  and I sneered the name in disgust.

At which point three teenage girls I've never seen before or since and that I hadn't even noticed were walking in front of us suddenly turned around and glared at me as if I'd just insulted God Himself.

We just kept going. But I'll never forget those if-looks-could-kill stares.

Sadly, that's what I still think of when I hear the name Bobby Sherman. But I'm sad to hear he's gone.

You couldn’t swing a dead cat without hitting one of those teen mags at magazine racks that featured Sherman’s mug slapped on it.  And if you did swing a dead cat at magazine racks you should be ashamed.  I would’ve been ten around the time he was popular but can’t remember any of his “hits” on the radio, or Here Come The Brides on tv.  I do remember a Partridge Family spin-off called Getting Together.  Referencing an earlier thread on barely remembered tv shows, Getting Together lasted fourteen episodes.

SiriusXM 70's on 7 plays him all of the time.  Zoomer played Easy Come, Easy Go not long after the story broke early in the afternoon.

Zoomer also plays “Julie Do Ya Love Me”, from time to time, I only notice it because it reminds me of how my sister played that single on an endless loop! She also liked David Cassidy, no surprises there!
