She played Lt. Margaret Houlihan for the entire amazing run of the legendary sitcom M*A*S*H.
Loretta Swit has left a permanent mark on TV, co-starring in one of the most acclaimed shows in history, still the highest rated finale of its time.
Margaret's character started out as the spit-and-polish head nurse of the 4077th, but eventually softened and became more character and less caricature as the series went on.
“Around the second or third year I decided to try to play her as a real person, in an intelligent fashion, even if it meant hurting the jokes...
“To oversimplify it, I took each traumatic change that happened in her life and kept it. I didn’t go into the next episode as if it were a different character in a different play. She was a character in constant flux; she never stopped developing.”
Swit passed away on Friday at the age of 87, apparently from natural causes. But she'll never entirely be off your TV.

Of the main cast, they are the only ones left.
I'm sure there are a few recurring characters still with us.
One of them, Jeff Maxwell, who played Igor, co-hosts a MASH podcast. They posted a tribute to Loretta Swit yesterday.
