The Latest Hallmark Movie: A Buffalo Bills Love Story

Is there anything more generic or predictable than a Hallmark romance movie? Boy/girl is forced to go back to a place from their past to take care of something and then winds up falling for one of the locals. It's the same script every time and I have to admit, while they're popular, I've never seen one of them.

So how are they pulling the Buffalo Bills into this? A new flick that will be shown around Christmas is not only set around the Western New York NFL team, but even includes cameos from some of the players.

"Head coach Sean McDermott, running back Ray Davis, safety Damar Hamlin, offensive tackle Dion Dawkins, tight end Dawson Knox, long snapper Reid Ferguson, defensive tackle DeWayne Carter and wide receiver Joshua Palmer will also appear in the movie.

Bills legend Jim Kelly, former players Steve Tasker, Thurman Thomas, Scott Norwood and Andre Reed, and Bills announcer Chris Brown are set to make cameos, as is Luke Russert, the son of the late broadcast journalist and die-hard Bills fan Tim Russert."

I believe they mostly air on the W Network in Canada, and I suspect those who are interested will be able to see it here. If nothing else, you can be sure this will be a huge must-watch in the Queen City.

RA, you mentioned “the Queen City” in your last sentence and I’ll be honest, I didn’t know Buffalo was referred to as that, so I looked it up. Turns out there are a few North American cities referred to as the Queen City including Regina, obviously, and that’s the one I think of since it’s in Canada, plus I once lived there! Minor point I know, but thought it was interesting, or maybe not!

Exterior: Gray dull late morning.  Muddy field standing in as large parking lot.  Zubaz pants as far as the eye can see.
Hero is seen stumbling about the bed of rusted out but surprisingly still road-legal Chevy pickup.  Hero tips a bowling ball to his mouth and swallows the peppermint Schnapps secreted in the finger holes.  Dumping down the bowling ball Hero tilts backwards over the tailgate and falls onto folding table.
Heroine is seen coming into frame.  Dressed in far too small cutoffs, a midriff exposing Joe Ferguson Fan Club t-shirt and Buffalo red, white and blue facepaint although the red is likely blood.  Heroine shows great compassion to the fallen Hero as she gently leans over his prone body amongst the shattered remnants of the folding table.
Heroine vomits on Hero.
End Scene.

That actually sounds a lot better than whatever generic formula script they'll come up with.

All these movies are exactly the same and they just keep making the same ones over and over and over. The fact that people still watch them speaks volumes. But at least it's good for business in Ontario, since many of those generic "quaint villages" they take place in are located here.

Do you think Trump will be able to reshore those villages? Make America Quaint Again?

A bunch of these movies were shot in Almonte, a beautiful little town on the Mississippi River just west of Ottawa, and the hometown of basketball inventor James Naismith.

And Port Perry, which in reality splashes passionately in the fetid, swampy racial waters as a salute to the worst of the Deep South.

Personal recollection aside, I recommend 'Crimson Peak' as a suitably Buffalo movie (most of which was shot in and around the GTA).
