Canadian Station Offering "Summer Radio Camp" For Kids

I have a confession to make - I absolutely hated summer camp with a capital H. The few times I went as a kid were some of the worst experiences of my life. And I know I'm probably in the minority on that, because most people recall those times fondly. Not me.

But one summer camp I would have considered and been happy to attend is taking place at CHLY-FM, a station in Nanaimo, B.C. They're holding their annual radio camp for kids to teach them everything they need to know about how the medium works, production techniques, interviewing, newscasting and the art of making sound.

The campers can attend for one, two or three weeks, with the prices escalating every seven days. It's not cheap: all three weeks will cost parents $450.

Perhaps the kids who attend will be more interesting in podcasting, but it still helps to learn the background, because they're similar. In an era when kids may not even know what radio is, it's a good way to capture their attention. I only wish they'd had this kind of thing when I was a kid!
