It's been around for a decade and successfully fought off challenges from American streamers, not to mention the now defunct Shomi from Rogers. While the latter company offers "City TV+" and Corus has "StackTV", Crave has become the de facto main Canadian streaming service.
Here's how they did it - and why they claim they're far from finished in getting you to subscribe.
It’s not TV, but it’s not just HBO, either: Crave marks 10 years in trenches of streaming wars

A lot of people like CBC Gem, and it seems to get as much or more promo as the main network.

It will probably surprise you to know I'm one of them. While some of the Canadian stuff on there isn't always of interest to me, Gem also features a lot of international TV and movies, and even U.S. imports, some of them very good and all of them free, provided you simply sign up. There are no fees at all for the service.
As I mentioned in a previous thread, the CBC has confirmed one of the shows coming in March is "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," an Amazon Prime streaming show that has won a ton of Best Comedy and Actress Emmys over the years and rave reviews from critics. I'm looking forward to seeing it.
