Why CFRB's John Moore May Sound Slightly Different On Friday
The NT1010 morning man will be arriving at the studio bright and early as always on the final day of the work week - but it won't be a normal day for him. He'll be coming in straight from sleeping outside in the cold on the street, as part of a fundraiser for Covenant House.
He admits he's a bit worried about the weather, which is filled with rain, and the temperature, which at this time of year isn't exactly warm. It's part of an annual event in which executives and some of the upper crust in the city experience what it's like to be homeless or not have a roof over your head.
Although he does admit he has an advantage - because he needs to be in for show prep around 3 AM, his night outside is going to be a lot shorter than other participants.
It will be interesting to hear how his experience affects his on-air work and you can be sure he'll be talking about it on air.

Or, news that day of more layoffs. November tends to be brutal and this month so far for broadcasters hasn't disapointed.

Poor John ... having to sleep outside for about three or four hours, then go to work in a luxury radio studio surrounded by producers and assistants.
Gosh that will really impress upon him how terrible it must be to homeless.
What a bloody crock.
OK so Covenant House helps young disadvantaged youth, that's great, but pretending to to experience what real street homelessness is like is revoltingly absurd.
Quite frankly how dare they.
The idea that a silly exercise like that could possibly help the homeless is obscenely naive and hyp ocritical.
I'm all for helping the homeless, the mentally ill and the socially disadvantaged but the idea of this sleepout nonsense fills me with rage at its level of delusion.

Wow ...
It's an activity , an engagement that's part of a fund raiser.
Did the old Miles-for-Millions fund raising walks fill you with rage?
Does the CN Tower fund raiser climb fill you with rage?
The small taste of sleeping outside in the elements is more directly related to the fund raiser's purpose than the walk or climb.
OK, so the outside sleep doesn't resonate with you; that doesn't mean its revoltingly absurd as it sure seems to resonate for others as the $1M+ raised for Covenant House is nothing to sneeze.
Bravo to John Moore & all who helped with the fund raiser.

In my opinion, it is poor form to criticize anyone who is raising funds for a legitimate charity, be they a radio star in a “luxury radio studio”, (seriously?), or the Salvation Army. This “silly exercise” is one of the main fundraisers for Covenant House and yes, they do help the homeless, homeless youth, who are somewhat more vulnerable than adults. I suggest you visit Covenant House, it might tone down your rage and perhaps appreciate those who actually do raise funds for such causes, like John Moore.
