Surprise Switch: Fox Changes Its Mind On Post-Super Bowl Show

This happens exactly never. Until this year.

When a network with the rights to the Super Bowl names the show that will follow the biggest ratings getter of the year, it's usually a lock so they can promote the hell out of it. But this year, Fox changed its mind. After announcing last May that its new drama "Rescue HI-Surf" would get the coveted post game slot, the broadcaster has apparently changed its mind.

On Monday, Fox confirmed the rescue-in-the-water drama, with an elongated episode, will be shunted until the next day, replaced by the Rob Lowe-hosted game show "The Floor."

Personally, I'm not a fan of either show - or the Super Bowl, for that matter. But I am kind of surprised by the choice, since The Floor is not a very compelling game show and does not ultimately name a winner until the end of the season. As a sometime game show fan, I want to get it over with in the same show or I'm not coming back. For me, The Floor has too high a ceiling.

But obviously Fox has a lot of confidence in it to give it the single most valuable time slot on network TV.

"Ultimately, Fox brass decided the Super Bowl would be a better platform to launch the new season of The Floor, trying to bring in untapped family viewing to the show while keeping Rescue HI-Surf‘s regular schedule."

Re: Surprise Switch: Fox Changes Its Mind On Post-Super Bowl Show

I like the mechanics of The Floor and how the game works...but it starts with too many participants and drags on a little too long. I've yet to see a contestant worth rooting for. "Activate the randomizer" is also one of the worst catchphrases I've ever heard.

I would love to know why this show is filmed in Ireland. There is no way shuttling that number of contestants across the pond makes financial sense even if it's only a four- or five-day shoot.

I haven't seen "Rescue Hi Surf" but from the trailer it looks like just a more serious reboot of "Baywatch"
Is it?

Pretty much. Eye candy depending on your sexual preference, with lots of half dressed lady lifeguards and almost undressed pec-filled male rescuers with washboard abs. Who needs a plot when you're watching the flesh?

(This show seems to me to suffer from the same fate as the equally awful "Doctor Odyssey." How many plots are there where you either rescue a swimmer who's drowning, someone who fell off a surfboard or a boat that's out of control? That's three weeks and there are still many more episodes to come. Now what? But the human scenery is nice...)
